In an effort to provide the best internal training to our staff we will from time to time ask you to participate in this survey assessment. This assessment will assist the district technology committee in developing our plans for future staff development activities.

1. Basic Hardware and Software Setup
  • Load applications software i.e. curriculum software
  • Run operating system tools like clock, note pad, find command, and recycle bin
  • Setup computers, printers and other peripheral equipment
  • Load operating software
  • Customize the look and sound of the desktop on my computer

2. File Management

  • Select a specific location for saving and organizing files
  • Transfer files between hard and floppy drives
  • Regularly backup files to floppy disk or server folder

    • Use data in spreadsheet to create graph or chart
  • Database
    • Create simple database i.e. phone or student listing
    • Understand the basics of entering and editing data
    • Define fields and create database layout
    • Saving, naming and printing reports
    • Sorting data
    • Adding simple data formulas to create summations of numerical data
    • Use database information to mail merge in a word processing document
  • Graphics
    • Open and create simple pictures with the painting and drawing programs
    • Use clipboard to take graphic from one application for use in another
    • Group and ungroup objects
    • Change size of clip art and move within the page
    • Use drawing tools to edit clip art
4. PowerPoint
  • Navigate through a per-made PowerPoint presentation
  • Create simple PowerPoint presentation
  • Create a complex presentation including imported text and graphics from other sources
5. Internet
  • Login to the internet
  • Use Explorer or other browser
  • Create and use bookmarks
  • Configure browser to use email or plug-ins (helper applications)
  • Use search engines
6. E-Mail
  • Can send and receive email
  • Can attach files to an email
  • Understand how to subscribe/unsubscribe to listservs
7. Curriculum Integration
  • Use only certain software appropriate for my curriculum or grade
  • Teach appropriate word processing software
  • Teach students to use technology as a tool (e.g. spreadsheets, databases, information gathering, multimedia presentations)
  • Use the SmartBoard with Internet/Curriculum Software
  • Teach appropriate internet/technology applications

8. Ethical use understanding
